But it’s not your fault! I mean we are literally programmed through business guru culture to think that social media is the best way to grow a business nowadays. Don’t get me wrong, social media truly is an amazing tool to grow a successful business. But it doesn’t have your business’s best interest in mind…

So I hope you’re not putting all your eggs into one marketing basket. But if this is your case, I am here to help you get out of this sticky situation! No need to fear, your new marketing bff is here! (it’s me, I’m your new marketing bff)
Sure, social media marketing may be the easiest way to market your small business. Or the cheapest. Or the funnest (yes, that’s a word in my book). But it’s not the most sustainable option for making your life easier in the long run.
**cue the “sigh” sound effect in your brain**
But before we begin, we need to clear some things up.
An email list is your VIP pass to a direct line of communication with your audience – it’s like having a front-row seat in the world of business relationships. In simpler terms, it’s a curated collection of email addresses from individuals who have willingly opted in to hear from you. This magical list becomes your secret weapon for sharing updates, exclusive offers, and building lasting connections with your customers. Think of it as your own personal fan club, eager to hear what you have to say and excited to engage with your business.
So let’s tackle this back burner problem together, shall we?!

If you woke up tomorrow and your social media accounts were gone, what would you do?
How would anyone know who you are? How would you engage with your audience? How would you update your audience with sales, promos, and important information?
These are all important questions that need to be taken into consideration when creating your marketing plan.
And if you’re thinking, “yeah, that is very unlikely to happen…” then you must not be familiar with what happened to the Vine app in 2017. Yup, people who had millions of followers woke up one day to the app discontinued. Trust me, it can happen.
Now if you only relied on social media, you may be crapping your pants or slightly panicking. But if you had an email list with a built up community of subscribers, you’d have nothing to worry about. In fact, you would be prepared! (like the class mom’s purse on a field trip kind of prepared)
This is because you own your email list. You shouldn’t build your business on rented land.
Your business is not the only one your potential clients or consumers are interested in investing in. This is why it’s so important to gain trust from your audience. People don’t buy from strangers anymore. They buy from people they trust.
Having an email list helps you build trust from your audience because it allows you to have consistent communication with them enabling you to stay relevant on their radar. It also enables you to connect with them on a deeper level because your email list is where you share insider information that you wouldn’t share on social media. Whether you share more personal stories or share more info with value-driven content, the more open you are, the more your audience is going to connect with your content & resonate with your brand.
This is one of the main reasons why email marketing is effective. No matter what year it is, email marketing will never not be relevant.
You can’t run your business on just a dream… you gotta get some cash flow in order to keep the doors open. So making money with your business is a must do in order to actually grow your business.
When you have an email list, you’re able to hook people better. Because as humans, we are constantly over-consuming soooo many pieces of content on social media, but when someone opens your email… you have their full & undivided attention. This makes converting your audience so much easier than converting your social media audience.
I love giving my email list first access to sales, promos & even giving them their own special discount when I drop a new product or service! This also gives them an advantage & incentive for being on your email list. But remember to always give before you take. If your subscribers don’t find it valuable to stay on your list, then they’re going to unsubscribe & forget you existed. And in order to have a high email marketing conversion rate, you need to know how to convert your subscribers.
Don’t you just wish you could waste more of your time?! I mean your time isn’t that valuable, right? For crying out loud, you’re only a business owner… you can’t have that many responsibilities, right?
LOL! I’m being sarcastic okay…
My point is that your time is insanely valuable!! We’re business owners… we ditched our 9-5 to work 24/7… But the goal is to not have to work 24/7. And I don’t want you to. You deserve to have a life & you deserve to let your brain take a break while you can be present doing other things.
And in my opinion, having an email list, especially when having an email list for small business, doesn’t require a life sucking amount of time to be spent creating content like social media does. And 9 times out of 10, your email list content is already created for you.
Nope. I’m not lying. This is because one of the coolest forms of content you can create for your email list is to dig deeper & pull back more layers to a specific piece of content you already posted on social media!
You shouldn’t have to create content ideas for every email you post. Sometimes it’s as simple as spending 5 minutes creating an email that drives traffic to a blog post you wrote a few months ago, but it’s just that freaking good of an article you want more people to give it a read! Or maybe you spend 5 minutes sharing a story that happened to you last week & relate it to your business.
The opportunities for repurposing your content are endless. And that’s how you save time while serving your audience in a much more effective way!
